Is it a Sunnah to enter one’s house with the right foot first?

Q. Is it a Sunnah to enter one’s house with the right foot first?

A. The general rule is that it is preferable (Mustahab) for one to start/commence anything good or virtuous from the right side, like when wearing clothing and shoes or entering the Masjid. If there is anything that is opposed to being good or virtuous, then one should start from the left side, like when entering the toilet or cleansing oneself whilst in the toilet.

Similarly, when one enters the house, one should enter with the right foot and when leaving the house, one should leave with the left foot.

Sayyidatuna Aaisha Radhiyallahu Anha reports: “Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam loved to start with the right, when purifying himself (Wudhu/Ghusal etc.) and when putting on shoes or combing his hair.” (Musnad Ahmad)
