Do stepchildren inherit from their stepparents & step siblings?

Q. I married a second wife who has children from her previous marriage. I also have children from my previous marriage. Does my second wife’s children inherit from me and from my children from my previous marriage? Do my children and I inherit from my second wife and her children from her previous marriage?

A. A spouse will always inherit from the person they are married to.

Stepchildren do not stand entitled to inherit from their stepparents nor from their step siblings. Should stepparents or step siblings wish to leave ‘inheritance’ for each other, they may make a bequest up to one-third of the estate in their favor.
