Does one have to recite the full Salaam when making Salaam in Salaah?

Q. My first question is that I have not said Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullah on both sides at the end of salaah. I had just finished my salaah by saying one salaam at one side and sometimes I also say on one side Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullah and on the other side just Assalamu Alaikum so do I have to repeat my salaahs of two to three years as I did this mistake for 2 to 3 years?

A. In principle, to say Salaam once when turning the head to the right in Salaah is Wajib (necessary). The second Salaam is Sunnah. Therefore, if you said Salam once when you turned your head to the right in Salaah, all your Salaahs performed in such a manner will be valid. However, by leaving out the second Salaam, the reward of your Salaah will be decreased but it would not invalidate your Salaah. (Badaai-us-Sanaa’i 1/194)
