Stuttering and reciting Quran in Salaah

Q. I stutter and find it difficult to pronounce the words of the Quran in Salaah correctly. What should one do?

A. If one finds it difficult to recite the Quran due to stuttering or stammering during Salaah or out of Salaah, then one should adopt all measures and make a concerted effort to try and recite the Quran as correctly as possible.

If after adopting all measures in trying to recite the Quran correctly, one still finds it difficult to recite correctly, then one should continue to recite as best as possible and not become despondent as one will receive double the reward for making the extra effort to do so.

Sayyidatuna Aaisha Radhiyallaahu Anha reports that Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Quran will be with the honourable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who stammers, and finds it difficult to recite the Quran, will have a double reward.” (Muslim)
