Is it okay to fast on the day of Aashura\/10<sup>th<\/sup> of Muharram only?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A.<\/strong> It is Mustahab (preferable) to keep the fast of Aashura in the following manner:<\/p>\n<p>1- To fast on the 9<sup>th<\/sup> and 10<sup>th<\/sup> of Muharram together<\/p>\n<p>2- To fast on the 10<sup>th<\/sup> and 11<sup>th<\/sup> of Muharram together<\/p>\n<p>3-To fast on the 9<sup>th<\/sup>, 10<sup>th<\/sup> and 11<sup>th<\/sup> of Muharram all together<\/p>\n<p>However, it is Makrooh (disliked) to keep fast on the 10<sup>th<\/sup> of Muharram (the day of Aashura) only. <strong>(Tabyeenul Haqaaiq 1\/332)<\/strong> This is to distance oneself from enacting the practice of the Jews who fasted on the 10<sup>th<\/sup> of Muharram only.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Allah Ta\u2019ala Knows Best<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mufti Ismaeel Bassa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>themufti.com<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is it okay to fast on the day of Aashura\/10th of Muharram only?
