Does one have to pay Zakaat on 9 Karat Jewellery?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A.<\/strong> As a general rule, Zakaat is payable on Jewellery that predominantly contains Gold or Silver. Therefore, <strong>Zakaat is payable<\/strong> on <strong>24-karat jewellery<\/strong> (100% gold or silver), <strong>18-karat jewellery<\/strong> (75% gold or silver) and <strong>14-karat jewellery<\/strong> (58% gold or silver).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In regards to 9-karat jewellery, it does not predominantly contain Gold or Silver (38% gold or silver). However, the Gold or Silver content can easily be removed by Jewellers through a process of refining (melting).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, as the Gold and Silver content of 9-karat jewellery can be easily removed, it would be considered separately and individually from the jewellery. As such, <strong>Zakaat will be payable on 9-karat jewellery.
