How do I respond to my non-Muslim staff who great me with Assalaamu Alaikum?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A.<\/strong> As a general rule, a Muslim should not initiate the official greeting of a Muslims Salaam with non-Muslims. One of the main reasons being that the official greeting of Muslims \u2013Salaam, is a Dua (supplication) that encompasses a Dua of peace for this world (Dunya) and the hereafter. (Aakhirah) which is applicable to Muslims and not to non-Muslims. <strong>(Badaai-us-Sanaai 5\/128)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Muslim may greet a non-Muslim with a customary greeting instead. (For e.g. by saying Hi, Good Day\/Afternoon\/Evening etc.)<\/p>\n<p>If there is a need to make Salaam to a Non-Muslim, Salaam should be made\u00a0with\u00a0the following words:<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>&#8220;\u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 \u0639\u0644\u0649 \u0645\u0646 \u0627\u062a\u0628\u0639 \u0627\u0644\u0647\u062f\u0649&#8221;<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Transliteration: Assalaamu Ala Manittaba\u2019al Huda<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Translation: May peace be upon the one who follows the guidance.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the case where a Non-Muslim makes Salaam to a Muslim, a Muslim should reply with the words:<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0\u00a0<strong>&#8220;\u0648\u0639\u0644\u064a\u0643&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Transliteration: Waalaika <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Translation: And to you to<\/em>; or<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u201c\u0647\u062f\u0627\u0643 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0627\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 \u201c<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Transliteration: Hadaakallahul Islaam<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Translation: May Allah guide you.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Allah Ta\u2019ala Knows Best<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mufti Ismaeel Bassa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>themufti.com<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How should a Muslim greet a non-Muslim?
