Is Zakaat payable on stolen goods? 

Q. I would like to know if a large amount of goods were stolen, can you take this amount off from your zakaah amount? 

A. If the items/stock etc. were stolen before a person’s Zakaat date, then there is no Zakaat to be calculated on the stolen items/stock etc. on a persons Zakaat date. However, if the items/stock etc. were stolen after a person Zakaat date, Zakaat will be payable on the stolen items/stock etc. as a person had it in his possession on his Zakaat date and discharging it’s Zakaat became compulsory upon him.
