Combining the act of Qurbani with Aqeeqah

Q. If one has not done Aqeeqah for one’s child yet, can one do it and combine the intention of Aqeeqah with Qurbani on the day of Eid?

A. It is permissible to carry out the act of Qurbani and the act of Aqeeqah during the days of Eid. However, it is not permissible to combine the intention of Qurbani and Aqeeqah in one share of a Qurbani animal. It would be necessary to separate the shares of Qurbani and Aqeeqah for it to be valid. Mores so, if one does not have the financial means to do both, then if Qurbani is compulsory on a person, the act of Qurbani must be carried out during the days of Eid and the act of Aqeeqah may be done at a later stage.
