Auctioning in Islam

Q. Respected Mufti,

Is auctioning to purchase a home or vehicle or selling any personal item of oneself through the form of auctioning permissible in Islam?

If so please provide me with some Hadith and reference.

A. The concept of auctioning is permissible in Islam. (Al Mabsoot 15/76)

Sayyiduna Anas Bin Maalik Radhiyallahu Anhu reports that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam sold a saddle blanket and a drinking bowl. He (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: “Who will buy this saddle blanket and drinking bowl ?”. So a man said: “I will take them for a Dirham.” So Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: “Who will give more than a Dirham? Who will give more than a Dirham?” A man agreed to give him two Dirhams, so he sold them to him. (Tirmidhi)
